Featured Find for Guys | Cyberoptix TieLab

With a slogan like "ties that don't suck" we're off to a good start!  I am crazy about these gorgeous artistic silk-screened ties.  Designer Bethany Shorb creates them in her studio in downtown Detroit.  They are printed with high quality water-based inks and are available in silk, microfiber and cotton.  I love the serious-humor in the designs; it would be a pleasant surprise to see a groom sporting one of these unexpected pieces of art. Check out the Cyberoptix TieLab to see their other designs...

Wedding Sugar Palette #1010 | Floral Delight

A light and airy palette inspired by a garden full of pinks and greens.  The modern white lighting and furniture lend the floral inspired concept an architectural impact that is sophisticated and unexpected in an outdoor setting.

Weekend Away...

Forest and I were on the Oregon Coast this weekend and we got to spend a day at Cannon Beach, one of our favorite places.  It's where Forest asked me to marry him, and we've made a tradition of going back every year since.  The weather never got above the 60's but it's such a beautiful place to see.

I adore this gown from the Carolina Herrera 2011 Resort Collection.  The pattern is unexpected and breathtaking.  Great inspiration for a stylish and sophisticated bridesmaid...

Sugarcomb Wedding | Danell & Chris

Chris asked Danell to marry him half way down a ski slope! :)

They live in Colorado and ventured back to Danell's home town for their wedding.  On a warm sunny day, they married at St. Joseph, (my favorite church in Seattle, can you guess why?), and had their reception at Pike Place's Top of the Market.  Full of personality, their wedding included a vibrant color palette and an ecstatic gathering of family and friends who danced through the night.  My favorite parts: bridesmaids who changed from pink pumps to pink flip-flops at the reception, burgers at Dick's Drive-In, and a deliciously sweet ice cream bar!

Wedding Design Tip | Tell a Visual Story

Planning a wedding can easily turn into a shopping spree.  "I love this and this and this...!"  It's so easy to do, you pick everything you fall in love with: dresses, shoes, invitations, linens, decor, etc.  When you take a step back and look at all of your choices as a whole, as they will be seen on your wedding day, do they all tell the same story?  Not everything has to match, but in order to throw a wedding that visually captures your guests and could be wedding blog or magazine-worthy, the design must be consistent.  You should be able to hold any of your choices up to another and they should make the same statement.  Telling a story is a phrase I've heard countless times as a designer; it's like a theme, but more so, it portrays a feeling in a moment.  It visually tells viewers about a person, a time, a place and an emotion, without speaking a single word.  It is the easiest way to captivate an audience, to throw a wedding that becomes known for it's details, and to help you keep your choices manageable as you plan your big day.

Here are two examples of different stories.  Notice the feeling the groups create, what kind of bride & groom would each of these stories portray?  What would the guests experience?  They both tell two very different stories, but both are beautiful...

What story will you tell at your wedding?

2 Sweet Years...

August 2nd, two sweet years ago, was our wedding.  It's hard to believe it's been that long since I was running around with my own planning binder.  Even harder to believe that I've been married to my better-half (no joke) for that long.

Weekly, I can count on at least one person telling me that my husband is the nicest man they've ever met...and they're completely right.  I'm not sure how I found him (joke), but every ounce of me could not be more happy that I did.

Happy 2 Year Anniversary, Forest.
